Which app categories use onboarding personalization quizzes the most?
Health & Fitness (23 quiz apps) and Education (11) dominate the corpus of 119 quiz apps; only those two clear the N>=8 reporting threshold.[1] Every other category — Photo & Video (5), Music (4), Reference (4) and below — is a handful of apps, so treat them as directional, not statistical.[1] If you are in H&F or Education, a quiz is a mainstream choice.
Health & Fitness (23) and Education (11) lead onboarding-quiz adoption among 119 quiz apps — Lazyweb Research, July 2026.
The distribution
| Category | Quiz apps |
|---|---|
| Health & Fitness | 23[1] |
| Education | 11[1] |
| Photo & Video | 5[1] |
| Music | 4[1] |
| Reference | 4[1] |
| Medical | 3[1] |
| Finance | 3[1] |
| Lifestyle | 3[1] |
| Shopping | 3[1] |
| Others | <=2 each[1] |
Only Health & Fitness and Education reach the N>=8 bar; everything below is an absolute count, reported with named examples, never as a percentage.[1]
How to apply it
If you are in Health & Fitness or Education, a personalization quiz is a well-trodden path — benchmark depth against those verticals (H&F ~6 questions, Education ~2).[2] If you are in Photo & Video, Music, Finance, or another thin category, you have fewer peers to copy; a quiz is more of a differentiator and a bigger experiment. Named non-fitness quiz apps include copilot (investment goal question) and alyx (caffeine-limit tiers).[3]
Caveats
Category counts join companies.category on lower(company_name), so unmatched apps drop out.[1] Below N=8, differences between, say, Music (4) and Reference (4) are noise. Treat sub-threshold categories as 'a few apps do this,' not as a reliable adoption rate.
