Curo: The acquired virtual-depot fleet-charging model

Curo built a fleet-charging and parking marketplace and is now listed by YC as acquired by Inspiration Mobility Group.

Curo is a historical fleet-charging company now listed as acquired. It is useful as a product and market record, not as a standalone current-vendor recommendation.

What it built

Curo’s YC profile describes a fleet-charging and parking marketplace: fleet operators lease underused charging spaces when they need them, creating a “virtual depot” without building a traditional depot at every location.

The current Curo homepage still presents the product around two sides of the market. Fleets get dedicated Level 2 and DC fast charging, overnight access, consolidated payments and available locations. Site hosts turn underused parking and charging infrastructure into revenue, with Curo handling billing, monitoring and network access.

The old YC launch record describes the same basic wedge in more detail: use existing charging locations during low-utilization periods so fleets can park and charge without waiting for new infrastructure. That is a sensible marketplace insight. Fleet electrification is constrained not only by vehicles, but by where those vehicles can reliably charge.

Why it is still interesting

Curo’s product idea was a coordination layer between two underused assets: fleet demand and charging capacity. The advantage was not another charger. It was matching time, location, access and payment across a network.

The public launch post claimed that Curo had scaled to 15-plus states and worked with companies including Google, Uber, Zoox, Cox Enterprises, Boston Properties and Irvine Company. Those are company-published claims in the YC launch record. They are not independent measurements, and they should not be carried forward as current operating facts after the acquisition.

The founder context is also part of the historical record. YC describes Kieran White as a former Tesla employee and Curo CEO, and Andrew Porter as Curo’s co-founder and CTO with a background in mathematics, economics, marketplace platforms and environmental blockchain projects.

The important status change

The YC profile marks Curo as acquired by Inspiration Mobility Group. That changes the reader’s decision. A founder looking for a current vendor should not assume the Curo brand, terms or product surface remain independently available. A founder studying fleet infrastructure can still learn from the virtual-depot model and the two-sided distribution problem.

The current homepage does not publish simple pricing. It presents a fleet path and a site-host path, which is enough to understand the product shape but not enough to evaluate a live purchase.

My editorial take

Keep Curo in the company directory as an acquisition-aware historical profile. The useful lesson is the asset-utilization wedge: find existing infrastructure that is idle at one time and valuable to another buyer. Do not present Curo as an active standalone option until the current owner confirms that route.
