## App Store description

Microsoft Authenticator supports easy, secure sign-ins for online accounts through multi-factor authentication, passwordless sign-in, and password autofill. It also provides account-management options for Microsoft personal, work, and school accounts.

### Multi-factor authentication

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds a second security layer after a password. During login, users can either approve a notification sent to Microsoft Authenticator or enter a one-time password (OTP) generated by the app.

- OTP codes use a **30-second timer**.
- Time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) do not require a network connection and are described as not draining the battery.
- Multiple accounts can be added, including non-Microsoft accounts such as Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, and GitHub.

### Passwordless sign-in

Users can sign in to a Microsoft account with a phone instead of a password: they enter their username and approve the notification sent to their phone. Fingerprint, Face ID, or a PIN provides a second layer in the two-step verification process. After two-factor authentication, users can access Microsoft products and services including Outlook, OneDrive, and Office.

### Password autofill

Microsoft Authenticator can autofill passwords on mobile apps and sites. Users sign in on the app’s Passwords tab with a personal Microsoft account to sync passwords, including passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Users can set Microsoft Authenticator as the default autofill provider and import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers.

Passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. Fingerprint, Face ID, or a PIN is required to access and autofill passwords on mobile.

### Microsoft personal, work, and school accounts

A work or school organization may require Microsoft Authenticator when users access certain organization resources. Users must register their device with the organization through the app and add their work or school account.

Microsoft Authenticator supports certificate-based authentication by issuing a certificate on the device. This helps an organization identify sign-in requests as coming from a trusted device and lets users access additional Microsoft apps and services without signing in to each one separately.
